Yep, you read that right, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 had Assassin’s Creed concept art in its latest trailer.
Awkward! *makes popcorn*
The Uncharted 4 story trailer hit earlier today, and featured this painting:
It’s unclear if someone left a placeholder image, or if this was supposed to be some sort of an homage, but the painting was unmistakably AC: Black Flag concept art:
The Head of Content for Assassin’s Creed immediately threw some shade on Twitter:
Since then, Naughty Dog has updated the trailer and released a quick apology:
“In our eagerness to get the story trailer out we made a regrettable mistake and didn’t thoroughly vet the art work used for an in game painting. We’ve already updated the trailer. We hold all artistry in high regard and take full responsibility for having allowed this to happen.
We want to sincerely apologize to everyone at Ubisoft, the Assassin’s Creed team, the original artist, and our fans.”
It seems that our long standing national nightmare is over for now, but I’d love to find out one day how this happened. Was this an accident or placeholder? Was it an homage? Why would someone insert something so easily recognizable in the game even if it was only temporary? So many questions, so few PR representatives wanting to ever mention this blunder again.
The answer’s probably short and not very amusing anyway. I’ll update this post if anything else happens.
