If you regret the career choices you made (particularly to “not become a space pilot”), Star Citizen and Squadron 42 are the best ways to right that wrong. We still have no clue when the games will officially release, though I’ve heard it’s going to be between lunch today and the end of time. If you are remotely interested in the games, the time to buy them is now, before February 14.
Up until said date, Star Citizen and Squadron 42 will come as a package. After that date, the two games will be sold separately. And while some people on the internet are bitching about this move, it makes perfect sense. Early supporters deserve special treatment – early supporters took a bigger risk when they added their pennies to the $104 million funding campaign. As the piles of money grew, so too did the project. While the average crowdfunded project leaders would probably spend that money on hookers and blow, RSI made the games bigger and better. And better. And better. So it only makes sense that they want to sell the games as 2 separate AAA titles – because that’s what they fucking are.
This is the persistent universe, part of which can already be experienced if you pledge now. We all joke about how this game will never get released, but if it does, it promises to be the most extensive space simulator ever.
- Over 100 ships, from small fighter-class ships to multi-crew capital ships.
- The ability to own industries, such as mining corporation.
- The option to be anything from a space pirate to a space trucker.
- Planetary landings – seamlessly transitioning from space-flight to atmospheric flight, to landing on a procedurally generated planet on which you can roam around on foot.
Of course the game is still a work in progress, so things outside of direct pledge-related promises are just speculation, and subject to change. The way development has been going, I can only imagine this change will be for the better.
This is the single player campaign set in the Star Citizen universe. Slated for episodic release, the first of three episodes may be releasing sometime in 2016. The first episode alone will have approximately 20 hours of gameplay, consisting of 70 missions. An optional co-op mode means I’m going to try convincing Goran to jump in on this.
A star-studded cast, a conversation/relationship system, and the “citizenship” tie-in with Star Citizen – Squadron 42 is gearing up to be fucking awesome.
Perhaps there’s some irony in the fact that this pair is being split up on Valentine’s Day, but you don’t have the time to waste reading a joke about said irony right now. Why the fuck are you still here?
